Durood-e-Paak (peace and blessings)

First of all I would like to admit the fact that words alone cannot express the excellence, benefits and blessings of Durood-e-paak.

Allah Paak Jallashanu says in Surah Ahzab 33, Verse: 56:
‘‘Indeed Allah Ta’ala and His Angels send peace and blessings upon the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam), O You who believe send peace and blessings on the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam).’’

It is clear from this verse that Allah Paak Jallah Shanahu and His Angels are sending Durood-e-Paak (peace and Blessings) on the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam). In other words, to send peace and blessings on the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) constitutes the sunnah of Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu. Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu does not pray, pay Zakah (alms, Zakat), or fast nor does He go to perform Hajj (holy pilgrimage). Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu sends peace and blessings upon His beloved. Praying, paying Zakah, fasting and Hajj are all actions of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam). Reciting Durood-e-Paak (peace and blessings) is the action of Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu. Ones action is also referred to as Sunnah. Thus, one is the Sunnah of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) whilst the other is the Sunnah of Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu. It is agreed that Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu’s Sunnah is above the Sunnah of any Prophet, thus reciting Durood-e-paak (peace and blessings) is superior to praying, paying zakah, fasting and going for Hajj, however this does not mean that one should stop praying, paying Zakat, fasting and going on hajj, these are all compulsory actions in themselves. In order for these actions to be accepted it is necessary that one has possessed a heart full of love for the Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam). Whosoever possesses love for the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) in his heart, does not feel at ease until he recites darood-e-pak, he cannot live without reciting darood-e-paak.

A simple, short and comprehensive Durood-e-paak is:
Ya Rahmatalill a’lameen (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam).

Try reciting with full concentration for at least 45 minutes daily. If Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu wills in just a few days, the condition of you heart will change, you will find the peace of heart that you have been searching for years. The only condition is that you recite it with sincerity of the heart and maximum concentration. You recite it with weeping eyes out of the love for the Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam).

The following Darood-e-Owaisia is specific for our Silsila Owaisia Muhammadia (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam):

We recite Durood-e-Ibrahimi within our prayers. If we exclude it, our prayer will be incomplete. Now we are performing prayers for Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu and reciting Durood-e-paak for the Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam). It is stated in a Hadith that, ‘Perform prayer in such a way as though you see Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu, if this is difficult to imagine, you should imagine that Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu is watching you’. Therefore, it has been forbidden for one to imagine anything or anyone but Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu during prayer. On one hand it is forbidden to even think about anything but Allah, whilst on the other hand Durood-e-paak is being sent on the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) and it has not been forbidden. The extremely beautiful point in this is that it has been forbidden to think or imagine the stranger, not the One whom Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu Himself has created with His noor (light).

Hazrat Imam Ghazali (Rahmatullah’Alaiyhi) has stated that, there was once a person who did not recite Durood-e-paak. He was once blessed with a visit from the Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) in his dream. However, the Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) did not pay any attention towards this man. When the man enquired as to why this was the case, the beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) replied, ‘I do not know you’. The man said, ‘I am your ummati and the great scholars say that You recognise each and every member of Your ummah very well, even more than a mother knows her child. The beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) replied, ‘You speak the truth but the more my ummati recites durood-e-paak upon me, the more I recognise them. After experiencing such a dream, the man started reciting Durood-e-paak a hundred times daily. After a couple of days, the man was again blessed with a visit from the beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) in his dream. The beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) said, ‘I now recognise you and I shall intercede on behalf of you on the day of judgement’ (I will do Shifa’at for you).

Awliya Allah state that if one forgets something and recites Durood-e-paak, he will recall what he had forgotten.

Hazrat Ayesha Siddiqa (R.A.) narrates that, ‘One night I was sewing a cloth when suddenly the sewing needle fell from my hand, simultaneously the lamp went off. The room was entirely dark and the sewing needle could not be seen. In the mean time the Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) entered the room, the entire room became illuminated by the noor (light) on His blessed face and I now saw the sewing needle. I said, “The blessed face of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) is so much enlightened/illuminated (‘noorani’). The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) said, that pity be on that person and pity be on that person a thousand times that will be deprived from seeing even one glance of me on the day of judgement. I asked, ‘who is that person? Aqaa Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) replied that person is the ‘stingy’ one, a miser (bukheel). I asked, ‘who is the stingy one? Aqaa Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) replied, ‘the one, in presence of whom my blessed name is taken and he fails to send Durood-e-paak on me’.

When Hazrat Adam (Alayhi’salaam) was wedded to Hazrat Hawa (Alayhi’salaam), the marriage gift/dowry was offered in the form of reciting Durood-e-paak upon the Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam). It is reported in a Hadith that, ‘the one who recites durood-e-paak abundantly shall be in the shade of the Throne (arsh) on the day of judgement’. It is mentioned in a Hadith that, ‘the one who sends durood on me a hundred times daily, Allah Ta’ala fulfils a hundred of his needs, thirty in the world and seventy in the hereafter, but the one who forgets to recite durood-e-paak on me, it is as if he has forgotten the path to paradise. He has strayed far from the path to heaven.

Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu commands us to send peace and blessings upon the Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam). We send peace & blessings upon the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) during our prayers, uttering the following, ‘Allahumma Salli A’la Muhammadin’ which literally means, ‘Allah Paak You send peace and blessings upon the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam). Now Allah Ta’ala has commanded us to send peace and blessing on the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) but instead of acting upon this command we request to Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu that Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu, You Yourself send peace and blessings upon the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam). In the apparent sense this is going against the command but a person can only praise that, which he has knowledge of. The great status and excellence of the Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) is only known to Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu alone. This is the reason why we humbly admit that we are not familiar with the great status and excellence of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam), Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu, only You are familiar with His great status and excellence, that is why You Yourself is requested to send peace and blessings upon the Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) on behalf of us. We do not have the ability to express the great excellence of the Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam).

No matter what form of worship (Ibadah) you adopt/ perform, you cannot say with surety that it will be accepted. To send Durood-e-paak upon the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) is such an Ibadah that there is absolutely no doubt in its acceptance. In order for any supplication (Du’a) to be accepted it is necessary that Durood-e-paak is recited before and after it, otherwise it will remain suspended between the heavens and the earth.

It is reported in a Hadith that, ‘Whosoever is struck with hardship should send durood upon me abundantly’.

Lastly, I request you again, brothers to recite durood-e-paak abundantly, as much as you can.

Wa ma alena illal balagul mubeen.
