Being Incontent and having Love of Wealth

Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu says in Surah 63, Al-Munafiqoon verse 9:

“O Believers! Let not your wealth and your children make you neglectful of the very remembrance of Allah. And whoever does so, it is they who are the losers.”

Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu says in Surah 102, At-Takaasur verse 1:

“Your greed for massive wealth and the superiority complex has made you negligent (of the Hereafter).”

Aaqa Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) said that two wild wolves do not cause problems to a herd of goats as much as pride, love of status and wealth causes destruction in one’s faith(Belief) (deen).

Aaqa Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) said, “The son of Adam says my wealth my wealth; your

wealth is only that which you have eaten and you have finished. If you have worn it you have made it old and if you have given it in charity, you have saved it (for the hereafter)”.

“The condition of the children of Adam is such that they say my wealth my wealth. Your wealth is that which you have given in charity and sent forth. If you ate it, then you have finished it (fana) and if you have worn it, you have made it old. O son of Adam it is better for you to give and it is bad for you to keep.”

Aaqa Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) said, “The son of Adam has three friends, one who stays with him until his last breath, one who stays with him until reaching the grave, and the third that goes with him up to the day of resurrection. Wealth is the one that stays with him until the last breath, the family is the one who goes with him until the grave and his deeds are the one that go with him up to the day of resurrection.”

Aaqa Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) said that, “When a person dies, the angels ask, “what have you sent forth?” and people ask, “what have you left behind?”

Aaqa Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) said that, “Don’t build properties; you’ll begin to love the world”.

Aaqa Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) said that, “The best people of this ummah are the Fuqara (poor people of the ummah) and the first ones to enter Paradise and rest aside are the weak people of the ummah.

Once Hazrat Jibrael (Alaiyhi’salaam) came to Aaqa Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) and said, “Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu has said Salaam to You and has said, ‘if you wish, I shall make this mountain of gold’. Aaqa Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) replied:
“O Jibraeel,
The world is the house of the one who has no house in the hereafter,
It is the wealth of the one who has no wealth in the hereafter,
And only the one who has no wisdom collects (for the world)”.

Aaqa Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) said, “On the day of judgement, a person will come forth before Allah Ta’ala and complain of his poverty in this world. Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu will say, “I swear by My Respect and Glory that I did not take the world away from you to insult you but to bestow upon you the blessings and respect that I have prepared for you. Go to that queue, whoever fed you or clothed you for My sake and he sought only My raza’a (to please Me), hold his hand and take him into Paradise””.

Hazrat Ali (Karam’Allah’wa’ajhu) narrates that Aaqa Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam) said that, “when people will start to hate their poor people (fuqara), show off their construction works and become greedy in collecting dirhams (money), then Allah Ta’ala will send four problems upon them:

  1. (there will be) shortage of resources
  2. (there will be) cruelty from the king (i.e., the ruling people or the government)
  3. Government servants will be corrupt
  4. Enemies will overcome them

Hazrat Musa (Alaiyhi’salaam) once saw a person sleeping on a pillow of brick with only a single piece of cloth on his body. Hazrat Musa (Alaiyhi’salaam) requested, Ya Allah, this person of yours is wasting away in this world. Allah Paak Jallashanahu sent wahi (Revelation), “O Musa (Alaiyhi’salaam) don’t you know that when my entire concentration is focused upon a person, I make the whole world turn away from him (I take the whole world away from him).

At Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz’s time of death, someone asked that, “Are you not leaving anything for your children? (He had 13 children) Don’t you care about them? Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz (Rahmatullah’alaiyhi), also known as Umar II said that, “my children will become one of two: either obedient of Allah Ta’ala, in that situation Allah Ta’ala will be enough for them, and indeed Allah Ta’ala is enough for the saliheen (gooddoers); or disobedient of Allah Ta’ala and in that case I don’t care about them (if they will be disobedient to Allah Ta’ala, I don’t care about them).

Hazrat Muhammad Bin Ka’ab Karzi (Rahmatullah’alaiyhi) received lots of wealth. Someone said, “It would be better for you to keep all this wealth, for your children”. He replied, “No”. I will keep this wealth with my Lord, for myself and I will leave my Lord behind for my children.

Hazrat Yahya bin Mu’aaz (Rahmatullah’alaiyhi) said that, “At the time of death two problems surround people related to their wealth that no one has heard of previously. Someone asked, what are these problems? He replied, “At

the time of death not only all the wealth is taken but there is also accountability for everything”.

Hazrat Atta Kharasaani (Rahmatullah’alaiyhi) said that, “Once a Prophet (Alaiyhi’salaam) saw a person who would recite the name of Allah Paak Jallashanhu (saying Bismillah) and throw his fishing net, no fish would get caught in his net. He also saw another person who would take Shaytaan’s name and throw the net and this person’s net would become full of fishes. That Nabi (Alaiyhi’ salaam) asked Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu, “Ya Allah! What is the secret behind this?” Allah Paak Jallashanahu showed the Prophet (Alaiyhi’salaam) the status destined for both these people in the hereafter. For the first one there was respect in the hereafter and for the second one there was shame and punishment.

We waste our health to earn money and then we waste our money to restore our health. We live in this world like we are never going to die, yet we die like we were never born. Is this the standard of life you have in your mind? This is not life.

So be content in what you already have and do something positive for the society in which you are living.

Finally I supplicate that Allah Paak Jalla Shanahu grants us the ability to be content and thankful, and takes away the love of wealth from our hearts and makes us such that we live in the world and also work, earn pounds but our hearts, instead of loving wealth, are full of love for Allah ta’ala and Aaqa Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam). Ameen.

So always remember! Live in this world, but don’t let the world live inside your heart, this is purely for Allah Ta’ala

and his Beloved Aaqa Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallam).

May Allah Subhana Wa Ta’ala grant us knowledge of Islam and help us to act upon the Islamic knowledge we already have.

  • May Allah Paak  enlighten our hearts with His Noor and grant us the ability to perform good deeds
  • May Allah Paak forgive our major and minor sins and protect us from the spiritual diseases like anger, jealousy, backbiting, pride and greed.
  • May Allah Paak protect us from the punishment of the grave & hellfire, and  enlighten our graves with His Noor
  • May Allah Paak mercy upon the entire Ummah.

“Wa ma alayna illal balagul mobeen.”
